So why did you become a celebrant?

Well, after just having completed a Bachelor of Music in 2016 as a Jazz vocalist, let’s just say, my future was feeling a little weird  (no surprises there - who studies Jazz!??. I began gigging around Brisbane and beyond- everything from weddings to fancy corporate soirees to Sundays at the pub, all the while working in hospo. One day I decided I was over drunk people yelling at me to sing Horses, and Lycra enthusiasts ordering 30 coffees at once (kill me), so, I rang my Mum and cried about my future in a dramatic plea for help. Mum, (semi-famous in the 80’s, Marriage Celebrant and woman of wisdom) dropped a very casual question on me. “Why don’t you become a marriage celebrant”?

The answer seemed so obvious. After all, I’d seen so many celebrants in action as a wedding singer and occasionally thought to myself “I could totally do that”! Besides (not to toot my own horn) but I’d always been great at English/ creative writing/speeches in school (shocking at maths) but great at English! Plus, at risk of sounding cliche, I just genuinely love people. My friends say I’m confident, warm and have a knack to make those around me feel at ease.  So I did it, I became a celebrant, and just like that my passion for performing, people and creativity was rolled into one career.

Now, having delivered almost 150 weddings, it’s safe to say you’re in good hands!

But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself at @lovebylaracelebrant

If you’re after a genuine, lighthearted yet professional ceremony with zero cheese, you have landed in the right place.

  • I arrive about 40 mins before the ceremony starts. This allows me enough time to sound check, seat grandma, calm your nerves and pop my head around to greet you before you come down the aisle!

  • You sign with your existing signature. On the day we and your 2 witnesses sign 4 documents and one of those is a ‘pretty’ marriage certificate you’ll keep. This is not your ‘Official Marriage Certificate’ which you’ll need if you want to be able to prove your marriage or change your name.

You’ll get a link in your emails to order this once I’ve registered your paperwork. It’s very simple!

  • Indeed I DO! I will be sharing with you some useful tips for vow writing as well as vow examples. You’ll send your vows to me several days before the wedding, so I can check length, tone and flow, before printing these out for you on a beautiful folded card, along with your required legal vows. These get handed to you on the day!
